It looks to me - although I dont use intuition support library like you might
not be detahcing the list from the listview before you alter it.

This has been known to be catastrophic with gadtools.

Like?  :-)  Just requesters... The only requester likely to pop
up during acess to the device list is one asking to insert a disk
(as far as I can see) Other stuff can damned well leave my window
alone!   :)

the getfile gadget isn't strictly a gadtools gadget.
With SRCGEN, you do get the gadget. It is actually there but it
has no imagery, and doesn't give an IDCMP_GADGETUp/DOWN message.
Look for a gadget in the gadget list (CreateGadgetA()) that is
a GENERIC_KIND gadget. That'll be it. You need to supply and image
for it as wellas telling the gadget what sort of activation it
should be (IMMEDIATE and/or RELVERIFY)
See the RKMs how.

If you mean TEXT_KIND gadtools gadget then nothing could be easier.
Just supply in the gadget's taglist something like this
[GTTX_TEXT,'my text',...,...,TAG_DONE]

You could also just draw a bevel box and print the text there yourself
using Amiga-E's TextF()  or intuitions PrintIText()

Hi

Last night I had a problem with the Asl library.
The RKM suggests you use AllocAslRequest(ASL_FILEREQUEST,[taglist,NIL])

Now I placed a few WriteF's in convenient places only to find that the program
was failing with the call below - it was popping up the requester

Wait for disk activity to finish
Program failed #800000b Reboot or Suspend

Ive come across this before and never properly understood what was going off.

My call was exactly

IF fr:= AllocAslRequest(ASL_FILEREQUESTER,[ASL_HAIL,'Choose an icon',
                       ASL_PATTERN,'#?.info',
                       ASL_FUNCFLAGS,FILF_PATGAD,
                       TAG_DONE])

Where fr was just declared locally as

DEF fr:PTR to filerequestr

/* nb filrequestr NOT filerequester */

It is here that the program fails.
Sorry that Im not able to give you the full code but the disk its on is
formatted under kick3.0 and the amigas im using are 1.3.

What am I doing wrong?
Possible thoughts are

1 .. Should I declare fr as so and give it some space.
     I though AllocAslRequest got the space for you as you never pass
     fr as an argument - only to AslRequest after AllocAslRequest returns
     and this just inst returning at all.

2 .. Do I need to specify the tags in a certain order or maybe specify more
     tags like ASL_HEIGHT for the height of the file requester window or
     ASL_WIDTH for the width reqpectively.
     I thought tags were invented cos they gave the programmer a set of
     defaults that he could choose to ignore.

Any answer would be appreciated.
